Welcome
The de Tornyay Center for Healthy Aging honors Dr. Rheba de Tornyay, Dean Emeritus of the University of Washington School of Nursing, and her lifelong interest in healthy aging.
The Center serves as a catalyst for promoting healthy aging through its support of research
and education in the field of gerontology for the School of Nursing, the University of Washington, and the broader community.
People are living longer and there is a growing awareness of the importance of enhancing these added years for older adults, their families, and friends. The de Tornyay Center for Healthy Aging is committed to advancing and sharing knowledge about successful aging and ways professionals and systems can support optimal experiences for older adults.
The de Tornyay Center and
Norwest Geriatric Education Center
are proud to present the
2012 Annual Geriatric Healthcare Lecture Series!
January - March 2012
Since 2006, the University of Washington's Northwest Geriatric Education Center (NWGEC), Continuing Nursing Education, and the School of Nursing's Technology Innovations in Education and Research (TIER) group have partnered in webcasting a series of continuing education programs for geriatric healthcare professionals and family caregivers throughout the Northwest. Utilizing presentations developed by the NW Geriatric Education Center, the series assists providers in developing and enhancing healthcare and interventions to prevent disease and postpone further disability for the older adults they serve.
The annual series is webcast weekly to rural sites in Washington, Wyoming and Alaska.
All lectures are scheduled for Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30 PM Pacific Time
online via the NWGEC network sites (contact Pat Barnick for information).
They are also held live and FREE of charge for students and community professionals in the
UW Health Sciences Building, Room T-653.
